now Zuga street 16, earlier Lindego street 20
The decision to build a high school, together with a boarding house was made in late 1950’s by military authorities. The school was established for the children of officers and soldiers serving outside urban areas. The high school was located on a former runway of an airport operating in Bielany just after the war. Now the area is closed in a square marked out by Lindego, Wrzeciono and Szubińska streets.
After its opening the school adopted the name “Ośrodek Szkolno-Wychowawczy im. Ludowego Lotnictwa Polskiego” (Education Centre of the Air Forces of People’s Republic of Poland ). The Command of Air Forces and Anti-Aircraft Defense (in Polish — Dowództwo Wojsk Lotniczych i Obrony przeciwlotniczej — the name of the institution was used to coin a popular, unofficial name of the school — dewulot) became the patron of the school. Following the start of transformation after the elections in June 1989, the name of the school was changed to the one used now.
At the edge of the court by 2009 there was a fighter plane MiG15 (Lim-5) which has the year of the opening of the school — 1963 — painted on it in form of a tactical number.
Among the graduates of XXXIX Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Lotnictwa Polskiego in Bielany (Polish Aviation High School number 39) there are: president of Poland Lech Kaczyński and the deputy head of the European Parliament Ryszard Czarnecki.
