They gained fame and recognition thanks to their victory in the International Tourist Plane Competition in 1932 in Berlin. On August 28, 1932 Polish crew consisting of Franciszek Żwirko (1895–1932) and Stanisław Wigura (1901–1932) in RWD-6 airplane achieved a great success winning the biggest aviation event in the world. To this day August 28 is marked as the Day of Polish Aviation.
