On May 9, 1987 PLL LOT Ił-62M „Tadeusz Kościuszko” airplane flying from Warsaw to New York crashed in Kabacki forest as a result of cabin decompression, loss of two engines and fire. The crash followed a few dozen minutes of the crew’s efforts to bring the airplane back to Okęcie airport. 183 people died in the crash. A plaque placed on a stone located at the crash site commemorates this tragic event.
